Winter Grooming Standards

Grooming season.

The grooming season will normally begin on December 1st or when sufficient snowfall and cold temperatures permit. An earlier start might occur if conditions permit. The season will extend through March 15th after which, grooming frequency will be reduced based upon weather conditions and trail use. Late season snow will be groomed, at the discretion of the lead groomer, based upon the potential of conditions to sustain the grooming effort.

Hours of grooming

-Generally grooming will occur after dark and conclude before sunrise. If possible, skiers should avoid skiing on the trails when grooming is in progress or immediately thereafter as this will allow the trails to firm-up.
-Some grooming may occur during daylight hours if fresh snowfall requires it

Frequncy of grooming

-Generally grooming will occur every 2-4 days, when no fresh snow has fallen, depending on usage and snow conditions
-Attempts will be made to groom on Thursday or Friday in anticipation of the weekend, and again on Monday or Tuesday to clean-up after the weekend.
-Classic tracks may not be re-groomed every time the skate deck is groomed. Retracking will be done at the discretion of the lead groomer.

New snow conditions

-Grooming will occur as soon as practical after every 2-3” of fresh snow. If a snowfall ends early in the day, grooming will generally not occur until that evening
-WIth snowfalls greater than 3-4” that are ongoing, packing of the snow will occur periodically throughout the snowfall event. Final grooming will occur after the event ends with the intent of having most trails groomed within 24 hours after the snow event.
-Not all new snow will be groomed. It may be determined that the snow will not last due to weather and climate conditions. Every attempt will be made to groom snow that will persist on the landscape.

Grooming update will be updated on the trail info page on the ENSBC website https://www.elynordic.org/trails
